Linux Mint 20 Ulyana No sound, Dummy Output

Post by chanrakrobin »

Hello all, this is my first post here, I'm very new to linux and I'll try my best.

I've been using Linux Mint for around a year and haven't encountered any sound issues before. But in the last few weeks my machine became very strange. The sound output just come and go, upon startup there's still the booting/welcome sound, but when I pressed volume up/ volume down button on my keyboard, there's no sound anymore. Also sometimes, the volume meter display just lags behind a lot, like it takes around 1 minute for my volume up button effect to display. When I run pavucontrol in terminal it usually says either 1) Dummy Output or 2) "Establishing connection to PulseAudio. Please wait..."

Oh yes, recently my firefox always crash spontaneously too. (Sorry if that's digressing, but sometimes I think whenever I try to browse a website that require sound output such as discord or youtube or zoom, the firefox browser suddenly crash)
Also when I tried to restart/shutdown my computer there's always this log:

Code: Select all

Some Programs are still running:
PulseAudio Sound System (Not responding)
Cinnamon Settings Daemon -media-keys (Not responding)
Cinnamon Settings Daemon -sound (Not responding)

I tried to follow the instructions by the trouble shooting guide on this forum and those written in Mr.Een's website and haven't found any success. :(

**EDIT** I tried to install debian 11 on my machine too. And I experienced the same problem  After the fresh installation, and loading up the GNOME desktop for debian, the sound works fine, (sorry I couldn't perfectly remember the details here, I think I pressed volume up/down on my keyboard for a bit), then suddenly after 5 minutes or so, I also encountered the dummy output issue again. Completely no sound.

Here are some of my system outputs. Thanks in advance
