<Solved> No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
Hi I need help.
The terminal says it does not find a soundcard.
I have a dummy output in sound settings. Output is 100%. Testing sound gives no sound.
I force reload Alsa, I did reload, it did not work
I have dummy output with pavucontrol,

As soon as I put my computer on I get this message:

Welcome to the forum, Linlouis.
That message often indicates you may not be running the correct kernel for your hardware. Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal:
inxi -Fxxxrz
Click
</>
from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware and give us the information we need to be able to make recommendations.A woman typing on a laptop with LM20.3 Cinnamon.

Re: No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
Yes, the 5.4 kernel currently installed is too old to have all the drivers for your hardware. Your system is running without graphics drivers.
Graphics:
Device-1: Intel vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: N/A bus ID: 0000:00:02.0
chip ID: 8086:9a78
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.9 driver: fbdev unloaded: modesetting,vesa

OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.0 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 20.2.6
compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes
Install the latest 5.14-oem kernel with
That will definitely clear the message about graphics drivers and perhaps it will install the wifi driver as well. I do not know if that will fix the audio issues.
With regards to audio, your data indicates it is using the sof-audio-pci driver. If the audio still does not work after upgrading the kernel, you will want to check for solutions which mention that driver.

Re: No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
Hi thank you for the help.
My terminal now tell me: [configuring secure boot]
The system will assist you in configuring UEFI Secure Boot. To permit
│ the use of third-party drivers, a new Machine-Owner Key (MOK) has been
│ generated. This key now needs to be enrolled in your system's firmware.
│
│ To ensure that this change is being made by you as an authorized user,
│ and not by an attacker, you must choose a password now and then confirm
│ the change after reboot using the same password, in both the "Enroll
│ MOK" and "Change Secure Boot state" menus that will be presented to you
│ when this system reboots.
│
│ If you proceed but do not confirm the password upon reboot, Ubuntu will
│ still be able to boot on your system but any hardware that requires
│ third-party drivers to work correctly may not be usable.
How do I now proceed? I press enter, it does not work. How do I get past this message to proceed To enter a password?

Re: No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
Did this come up in the terminal or did a new screen come up with this? You are the first person to tell me this came up when entering that command to install the 5.14-oem kernel.

Re: No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
It is in the terminal.
Re: No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
It wont. I cant even see where I must type a password.
When I hold my mouse in the bar at the bottom of my screen over the terminal icon I see it there.
I click all over it, but not the close "X" mark in the top right of the screen.

Re: No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
Can you click on the OK with your mouse?
I seem to recall others running into MOK issues (not related to the kernel I asked you to install) like this. I'm trying to remember how they got past this screen. Doing some searches now.

Can you click on the OK with your mouse? No it does nothing. I thank you very much for helping.
Re: No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
Does hitting the tab key highlight OK?
Everything I'm finding says to follow the onscreen instructions. Still looking.

Re: No sound - dummy output - no soundcard
I see in a couple of places to try Ctl-J or Ctl-M if the Enter key does not work when in a terminal.

Yes. It seems to work.
