Dell Inspiron 5400 AIO Dummy output problem [solved, kind of]

Post by timmn1 »

Some background, for reasons I won't get into here, I took the SSD out of her old computer, put it in a USB external drive case, attached it to the new computer and then set the BIOS to boot off the external drive, I got everything to work, except for the sound, I have tried everything mentioned in the Dummy Output posts to no avail. I've updated the kernel, and I have installed, reinstalled, and reconfigured pulseaudio and alsa more times than I care to remember, and nothing has worked.
The only thing I can think of is that there is something simple I missed.

Here is inxi:

Someday, maybe I'll figure out exactly what the hell I'm doing.

get rid of alsa and use the sof-soundwire built into your 5.15 kernel

OK, here's the thing, I never saw a problem like this before, so for me, this is uncharted territory, so exactly how do I get rid of alsa and use the sof-soundwire built into the 5.15 kernel?

Thanks

How to do this has been covered in this forum before. In fact I used it myself. I would rather that you got the directions here as I do not recall every step. SMG is a good source of help (one of the sound gurus)

I solved the problem by simply getting a USB external sound adapter and a pair of powered speakers. Not the greatest solution, but it works.
