Volume control problem in Mint 8

Post by cdysthe »

Hi,

I have a problem with sound in Mint 8: In the Sound Preferences I can adjust the volume to above 100% (which is good on my laptop), but as soon as I try to adjust the volume from the desktop bar volume control or multimedia keys it pops back down below 100% and I can't get it up again unless I reopen Sound Preferences. Anyone else see this, and is there anything I can do to be able to adjust the volume all the way from the desktop and multimedia keys?

More facts are needed
- please read these simple rules
Solutions for sound

This topic contains links to all (?) the really good solutions for sound in Mint
If you have Intel HDA sound take a look here first
If you want more help please include lspci and which Mint you use
And don't forget to go through all your settings
Right click the speaker next to the clock and check settings as well as any other settings you may find and also open a terminal and start alsamixer from it

Never heard of your problem....

You can easily reproduce this yourself: In the systray there's a volume control where you can control the volume using the left mouse button. If you right click on this volume control you can open "Sound Preferences". In "Sound Preferences" there's a slider volume control you now can adjust above 100% in Mint 8 (volume boost a la in vlc). However, the systray volume control does not follow the control in Sound Preferences: As soon as you use the left click volume control the volume is taken down below 100% again and you have to go into Sound Preferences again to be able to adjust above 100%. After having read some more I think this is related to this bug:

It looks like it's Gnome media not being in sync with the implementation of Pulseaudio on Mint 8 (and Ubuntu 9.10 for that matter).

Ah - I have not stumbled over this before, but that seems to be the reason
Might be different i Helena, I still use Gloria
How to solve it is another story and I think we have to wait until the bug is fixed
