Stereo speakers output static when there is no sound, unless...

Post by pallonen »

Hi all,
I have a problem that is baffling me. When ever audio is paused or muted I get few seconds of peaceful silence until my speakers start to output static. I resume audio and the static is gone until i dare to pause/mute the audio. Rinse and repeat.
What makes this a mystery is that I can prevent this static by opening sound preferences and selecting input-tab  If I select any other tab from the sound preferences, or close it, the static resumes after few seconds.

The audio comes from motherboards analog audio output, where I connect 3.5 audio jack. This jack is then connected to RCA cables via a adapter and those carry the sound into my stereo systems video input.
Is there any more information I can provide? Have you heard about this before?

Here are few information gathering commands with results

Try loading the Pulse equalizer. I was having the same issue, but with the EQ on it goes away.
I have travelled 37629424162.9 miles in my lifetime

One thing I would suggest, create a partition as a 50G partition as /. Partition the rest as /Home. IF the system fails, reinstall and use the exact same username and all your 'stuff' comes back to you.

I installed Pulseaudio-equalizer from Software Manager and rebooted.
Supposedly it is running.

While booting the static was audible and the static is still with me when logged back in unless I open Sound Preferences, and the input-tab from there.

Oh, one more thing. There is no mic connected
Edit; yet the "input level" has bars on it while listening to music
Thanks :D

Code: Select all

sudo sh -c "echo options snd_hda_intel power_save=0 >> /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf"
Execute the above command then reboot.
