gday. first post. like everyone, because of issues. ive chased through other posts with no reward...
old mobo, nothing special. onboard HDMI output doesnt output. was running a radeon GPU from a mac, obviously no acceleration...
plugged into the monitor, it was fine for general use. audio was fine, except... every now and then, it would start "echoing". really bad distortion... easily fixed by unplugging hdmi lead. might not do it for a week, might do it every five seconds... random.
right. onto the new card. msi gt1030.
without the drivers, no acceleration... its fine. hdmi outputting fine.
when i did install the drivers... im not going into detail, but it took two weeks to unbrick the PC. it wouldnt even boot into bios until pulling EVERYTHING off mobo and slowly powering up until it beeped again... not sure. whatever. got it fired up eventually.
so, drivers installed and bricking sorted... no audio on hdmi. been through a few of the other solutions regarding ALSA, and PULSEAUDIO... meh. nothing fixing it. it doesnt appear to be related to that at all, because...
according to the devices, the display when its plugged in simply doesnt register as an audio device. control panel thingy just says device unplugged. i havent tried it on any other display.
so im left with using an external amp on the audio out, and THAT has issues... random crackle, pop, fizz, and bang, ive got no audio. sometimes its fine for a month. this morning its done it three times. the only way to fix it so far has been to unplug the machine and leave it for ten minutes. in this issue, im sort of suspecting its actually the mobo at fault... it has the appearance of bad capacitors in the audio line somewhere... it might very well be im chasing geese and a new mobo is the real solution...
anyway... it really would be nice to figure out why this monitor is refusing to play ball and be an audio device when the drivers are installed... again, rollback to the basic, no acceleration driver and its fine. ive tried all the versions of the driver (the rollback from the most recent to the oldest caused the bricking, btw) with no luck.
ummmm... is this how i do it?
