No Sound on Audio Jack with Samsung Galaxy2 360

Post by rafi »

Hi Mints,

I have a fresh install with the latest 5.15 Kernel on a Samsung Galaxy2 360 which I razed (not dual boot). When I plug speakers to the 3.5mm audio jack, the system recognizes that something got plugged in, but I get no sound out. Super weird. I'm guessing this might be a Kernel issue, but how do I even go about to debug this?

In the "Volume Control" app, I do have a number of outputs, three HDMI outputs, and one "sof-hda-dsp Speaker+Headphones". When nothing is plugged in, that correctly switches to "Speaker", and all works fine, I see the audio level display, I hear sound, volume control works. When I plug in to the audio jack, that switches to Headphones, I still see the audio level display and the volume control works, but alas, I hear no sound. (And yes I tried with headphones and with speakers plugged in to make sure it's not my speakers or something silly... ;) )

I followed http://mreen.epizy.com/SoundFixTips.html?i=2 and e.g. removed ~/.config/pulse followed by pulseaudio -k, but nope (Oh... shouldn't I have done that given that I'm on Cinnamon? Too late...). Tried the sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* bit, all good. Tried apt install --reinstall pulseaudio && apt remove --purge alsa-base && apt install alsa-base, no change. dmesg | grep snd returns nothing.

Something else to try out?

Given that it's a fresh install on a new laptop, my guess would be that it's a Kernel issue. But if that's the case, then what are the next steps, seems like "somebody" needs to do "something" and might appreciate me buying them a coffee to do just that... ;)

Thanks and happy Minting!
