Welcome to the forum, Deiviis.

It is unusual that a somewhat older computer does not have any sound cards listed. Your system should not need a newer kernel to get them so I'm wondering if there might be a different cause. You indicated you were not dual-booting with Windows, but did you have Windows on this computer before installing Linux Mint? If so, was sound working there? If so, do you know if Windows was completely shut down (and not in its fake-shutdown hibernation mode) before Linux Mint was installed?

I did some searching on the GL552VX and found references to it having a Conexant driver in Windows. (And apparently people were having issues getting sound with Windows. :o ) Could you please supply the output of

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk | grep -A2 Audio
so we might get a better idea of what audio hardware your computer has.

Is secure boot enabled? You can check by running mokutil --sb-state in a terminal.

It also might help to install the Nvidia driver and switch to On-Demand mode. Let us know if you need information on doing that.

If it is true this computer had audio problems in Windows, then your best solution might be to get a usb sound card (check the reviews to make sure it works on Linux-based distros).

Hello,

On my PC (asus GL552VX) it has the same problem from win to linux mint 21. The audio is low, I manage to upload it with the pulseaudio app (it doesn't increase much) but when it increases it sounds ugly (sparking noise)

apply lspci -nnk | grep -A2 Audio
------------------------
lspci -nnk | grep -A2 Audio
00:1f.3 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family HD Audio Controller [8086:a170] (rev 31)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family HD Audio Controller [1043:1060]
Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel
Kernel modules: snd_hda_intel
------------------------

apply mokutil --sb-state
---------------------------
mokutil --sb-state
This system doesn't support Secure Boot
--------------------------

My Nvidia in On-Demand

thank you

Welcome to the forum, salvador5to.

Please open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click the Copy button in the lower right and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware.

The person who created this topic has inxi output showing the ASUS GL552VX has UEFI so the fact your output says it does not support Secure Boot would seem to indicate you are running in Legacy-BIOS mode instead of the normal UEFI mode. Perhaps your system has other differences as well.

Scroll down to the "Bad Sound Fix Tips" on this webpage and see #1 (disabling timer-based scheduling) helps with the "ugly" part.
