I am really close on giving up. I am new to linux but this is too much. The guy from hex chat told me I have to install audio now I think he was fooling around with me. If I can not fix my sound problem I have to give up... :|

Welcome to the forum, amelie230985u23.

How is your speaker connected to your motherboard?

The information I found for your motherboard indicates it has Realtek ALC1150 Audio Codec. It also indicates the latest BIOS is 3.40. I wouldn't think that would apply to sound, but it is something to keep in mind.
Machine:
Type: Desktop Mobo: ASRock model: Z87 Extreme4 serial: <superuser required>
UEFI: American Megatrends v: P3.00 date: 07/10/2014

I found others with the ALC1150 who have sound, so we would need more details on how your speakers are attached to get an idea of what is happening. I also advise checking the Tips for Troubleshooting Sound Issues Rev. 1.

Your audio driver is loaded and the servers are running.
Audio:
Device-1: Intel 8 Series/C220 Series High Definition Audio vendor: ASRock driver: snd_hda_intel
v: kernel bus-ID: 00:1b.0 chip-ID: 8086:8c20
Device-2: NVIDIA GM204 High Definition Audio vendor: ASUSTeK driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel
pcie: speed: 8 GT/s lanes: 16 bus-ID: 01:00.1 chip-ID: 10de:0fbb
Sound Server-1: ALSA v: k5.15.0-58-generic running: yes
Sound Server-2: PulseAudio v: 15.99.1 running: yes
Sound Server-3: PipeWire v: 0.3.48 running: yes

You can run

Code: Select all

aplay -l
to verify your sound card is seen by the system.

I don't know what that means. Do you mean you are using speakers on your monitor and the monitor is connected with displayport?

What is the output of aplay -l

If you have adjusted settings in PulseAudio Volume Control and in alsamixer and that has not worked, then the next step is to provide the terminal output of

Code: Select all

pacmd list-sinks
while a song or video is playing on your computer.

Information on installing/using PulseAudio Volume Control and alsamixer are in Tips for Troubleshooting Sound Issues Rev. 1.

0.00 dB means nothing is coming through. Have you adjusted the Sound using the menu on the monitor? Page 3-5 of the PB287Q Guide has a screenshot of the options. Page 3-13 has tips for possible things to try for no sound.

Did you install pavucontrol per the directions in the link I gave you? I wonder what alsamixer is showing for this device.

And you checked alsamixer to make sure the appropriate columns do not have MM at the bottom?
(By the way, I am a woman.)

What display is at 100%? There are three different apps which could have that setting.

Additionally, there are settings on your monitor for volume.

Those are the settings for the Sound app. They are not the settings for PulseAudio Volume control. They are also not the settings for alsamixer.

That is explained in the "Audio Volume Options" in the Tips for Troubleshooting Sound Issues Rev. 1 topic I linked earlier. There are links to directions explaining how to use both PulseAudio Volume Control and alsamixer in that topic.
