[Resolved] No sound from onboard sound card | Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon

Post by destrosecret »

Disclaimer - brand new to linux. I have been surfing through similar issues here and I haven't been able to figure out why my sound card doesn't appear to work. Here's some output from some of the commands I've been running and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction..

The "device 1' listed looks like it doesn't have a codec and it doesn't show up under aplay which I suspect is the issue but I can't seem to figure out what to do about it. I've also tried hdajackretask and in there, only the nvidia codec is listed at the top.

Re: No sound from onboard sound card | Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon

Post by destrosecret »

Well, I kind of fixed it. I tried kernel 5.19 before and had issues with it not recognizing my 2nd monitor. I tried it again, but rolled back the driver to the previous NVIDIA version and that fixed my monitor issue.

I still wasn't able to get front panel audio from this kernel, but it did recognize my headphones when I plugged them into the back panel, so I'll take that as a win.

The dkms update for using the 5.19 kernel came through today so that is probably why the Nvidia driver now works.

You didn't list your full inxi output, but there are some motherboards where there are problems with either the front or the back set of connections and often trying different ports can work.
