Audio player skipping songs/not playing music

Whenever I try to play a song (.mp3), it just skips it and goes onto the next song or stops playing if there aren't any other songs queued.

I'm using Decibel Audio Player, but have tried Banshee and the problem persists.

Running on Mint 10 Julia.

Can you play other audio formats such as ".ogg", etc? Is MP3 the only format not playing?

How long has this been a problem or was this a problem after install of OS?

Did you try playing music files before install while using the live disc? Were you successful?

Check to make sure that you have "Lame" or "ubuntu-restricted-extras" installed on your system.

in terminal. Should have an "i" in first field before package name if installed.
