Doesn't the latest version of vlc play blu ray's? If so just press play and then record and it will copy the movie as you watch. At least that is a procedure that works for dvd's.

With Mint's codecs you should be able to play Blu-ray discs without DRM in MPlayer though I think VLC will work as well. But discs with DRM protection can't yet be played by VLC on Linux.
Open-source software is not allowed to get a DRM key to play Blu-ray. You have to be closed-source for that.

Prox, thank you for the link and changing the thread title. It certainly makes more sense. I actually figured out something different. I bought a Motorola Xoom and I thought I needed to rip by blu rays to the hd and then convert them but I found out about the vlc pro direct app which allows me to stream through the xoom from vlc on my laptop. Works beautifully. It has enhanced my treadmill time significantly.
