Problems with Sun Java plugin for firefox & chromium

Post by John2011 »

Hello there.

I am running Linux Mint 11 , and am trying to get the Sun Java plugin to work (I have stuff I need to use which simply won't work with openJDK/IcedTea).

Now I installed the Sun-java6 stuff and it all works fine , I did update-alternatives and when I do java -version it says:

java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode)

Which is all good!
Also the sun-java6-plugin package is installed.

However whenever I try and use a java applet , it says that java is not available (both in chromium and firefox) and when I do about:plugins then Java is simply not listed at all.
I have tried re-installing firefox (I have version 8 from a PPA) and the sun-java-plugin to no avail..

I can get Java to work if I install the icedtea plugin , it will then showup under about:plugins but I cannot get the official Sun Java Plugin to work at all...

Very confused.

Any help would be great!
