How do I restore my default audio settings?

Post by aegimius » Wed Jan 11, 2012 11:42 pm

I am using Linux Mint Katya. The default audio was pulseaudio but when trying to get my head-set to work, Alsa was recommended and I installed it. I changed a whole bunch of other things. I still can't hear any audio with my headset, but sound comes out of the built-in speakers. I have reason to believe now that I will be able to use my headset with the default settings since my headset works perfectly with my other Linux Mint PC which has the default audio settings. The laptop I am using now had its settings altered many times. I can't even access the sound in the Control Center anymore. It says "waiting to respond", and nothing happens.

I only want to go back to the audio defaults, I don't want to restore defaults for anything else.

If you run:

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep -i -e alsa -e pulseaudio
You can a list of installed packages for ALSA and PulseAudio. You could compare it the list from my Katya install (I haven't messed with audio). Just check if some packages are on your system that aren't on mine, and vice versa. Perhaps remove the extra packages, and install the missing packages. Then copy the /etc/default/alsa file and the /etc/pulse directory from the installation CD/DVD to reset the configuration. Should pretty much reset it to default I think.
