[Solved] Which Graphics Card Slot Is This?

Hi all,

I believe my graphics card is letting down the team in regards to my computer, so I'm looking at upgrading it. Problem is, I've no idea what sort of slot I have in my computer and therefore, no idea which graphics card to buy.

Excuse the very large, poor pictures, the one with it currently plugged in is the graphics card.

I believe that is the PNY NVIDIA Quadro NVS 280 PCI graphics card. Here: http://www.pny.eu/product/p-8-80-136/Ph ... S-280-PCI/

It is a graphics card for a normal PCI slot, so if you replace it I think you must not get a graphics card intended for AGP or PCIe /PCI Express slots. Though I was only able to find one PCI graphics card at my preferred components vendor; these days they are all PCIe...

Are you looking for speed increase, or to replace it because it is breaking down? Not sure if it's breaking or if just performing badly. It's not rendering a lot of items properly. If I right click in Libre Office, I just get a load of lines where the text would be.

The bottom slot looks like AGP to me, you can check in your bios.

The ICH 7 controller from Intel that is listed does support PCIe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I/O_Controller_Hub#ICH7

For some more details, share the output of:

The top slot (white) looks like a regular PCI slot, and your bottom slot (black with blue lock handle) looks like a PCI Express x16 slot. You should be able to put pretty much any PCI Express graphics card in there I think. Though you have to take into account if your power-supply has enough Watt. (Usually the mid range PCI Express graphics cards specify they need a 500W power-supply, but it steps up if you go for the high range cards.)
