nvidia gives cinnamon trouble

Post by freeze »

Hi,

yesterday I did a new install of mint 13 64-bit.
I installed the latest nvidia drivers following these instructions: http://www.unixmen.com/nvidia-driver-29 ... ch-gentoo/
Support for my nvidia 8300gs should be alright with this driver version 295.59. After installation however it messed up my cinnamon. When I reboot I only get to the Gnome classic/fallback desktop.
Anybody with similar trouble or a solution? I've been waiting with installing because rumor said nvidia was updating their drivers to be compatible again with the latest xorg. Version 295.59 should have fixesd this...

Sorry your having problems. I don't have the answer for you. I installed the same driver from the same source and it works fine with my graphics card.
but mine is not the same series as yours.

I'm guessing there is some issue with the 3d acceleration which is needed to run Cinnamon. Anybody else with the same issue, solutions,...

If it wouldn't work out, how can I switch back to the default Nouveau driver?

you can uninstall the Nvidia driver by doing the following in a terminal

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge nvidia
That should re install the open source driver.

good luck.
