It seems that the version of bluez in Mint 13 (Ubuntu 12.04) broke compatibility with a lot of bluetooth devices... so far, no solution... My thread, with identical question.

Sorry to say, but it's pretty pathetic when no one wants to come up with any kind of fix or develop something that's compatible with most stuff....or just plain don't want to listen to anyone when it doesn't seem important to them (devs included)....I'm not bashing, just telling the truth....cheers

Unluckly, I am living this problem too. My bluetooth it's not working on Maya. System detect the adpater, the icon appears on pannel but "visibility" and definitions are off and locked.

What's the sense in making all these new distro versions if not many things work with them and no fixes are suggested...especially no input or sugestions from devs.....cheers

Same problem here! <SOLVED>

I have been using Mint since Daryna (dual boot with windowx xp) and only Mint since Helena.
As of now, I absolutely need to use bluetooth and Maya does not deliver!
Life is hard sometimes. So I did bite the bullet and went back to windows7.
OMG how low can you get... :(

You should be more precise about your Blutooth's modules... My bluetooth integrated module works just fine out-of-the-box on Maya KDE, it's an acpi module driver, you are talking about bluetooth dongles or integrated cards?

Sorry! You are perfectly right.
My answer is a bit delayed as I can only used my left hand at the moment.
Here is some information as to my hardware:

Dell Inspiron 1110
Intel Pentium SU4100 @ 1.30GHz (x2)
4,00 GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 410MHz (6-6-6-18)
298 GB HD (MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit)
120 GB SSD mint 13 (external but used to be the unique internal os until I needed bluetooth)
(Boy Oh boy it ran great with Maya on the ssd!!!)

Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth module

The module works ok under win7, but will not function under Maya (cinnamon).

Have you cheched if your dell softlock and hardlock for BT radio module is disabled? If your acpi modules are loaded fine you should be able to test with Fn-Fx (some F key relative to radio module).

Lord_Eager,

Thanks for the suggestion.
All F keys work with the exception of the "radio" button.
I have to investigate this further.

Lord-Eager,

By the way, I had to put the SSD (maya) back into my laptop.
Windows 7 is too much of a pain in the lower back.

Yes after many years of dual boot i finally decided to have only Mint 13 on my netbook, now that wine is enough mature even the few apps not developed for linux are usable, so win times are really finished at all for me...

About your problem should be helpful if you'd post here the output of: rfkill list
I remember i read somewhere that this problem in laptops happens when last time windows whas shutted down the radio module was off, so when linux distro is installed it remains locked off and results impossible to make it work... if you are still on dual boot you coul try going back to win, enabling it, then trying back on linux, otherwise, if the result of the command posted above tells you the modules are locked, you can try to unlock them by typing: sudo rfkill unlock-all

Hope this helps.

@ Lord_Eager

Sorry for the very late reply!
Indeed "sudo rfkill unlock-all" did it for me.
Now I have bluetooth working.

Thank you very very much for your help.

Another happy "mint only" customer.
