[SOLVED] No mouse left-click with USB headset GN9350e

Hello,

I'm running Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon 32-bit and I have a Jabra GN9350e wireless headset.

The headset seems to be getting recognized properly:

Code: Select all

~ $ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 005: ID 0b0e:9350 GN Netcom

~ $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 2: G9350 [GN 9350], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

 ~ $ cat /proc/asound/cards
 2 [G9350 ]: USB-Audio - GN 9350
GN Netcom GN 9350 at usb-0000:0e:00.0-1, full speed
If I go to System Settings -> Sound the device is listed fine under hardware and I can select it for input and output.

However, there is a strange problem. The headset has two modes, 'phone' and 'pc'. This means it can be connected to a phone's headset port and to a PC through USB and it has two buttons on the base to change between one or the other.

If the base is on 'PC' mode before connecting it to the computer and is left there than it all works fine, but if it is on "Phone" mode and I press the 'PC' mode button to use it with the computer then the mouse left-click button stops working until I unplug and plug it back in.

I remember a while back I had a similar problem with a different distribution of Linux and different USB headset, but never did anything to find a solution. I tried to Google my way around but nothing specific. Some links with similar stuff:

Any ideas?

The problem is worst than I thought. As I said, there's a way to kinda' make it work.
- Make sure headset's base is on 'PC' mode before plugging in USB
- Plug in USB and select device for output/input
- Open skype
- Make a test call
* Up until now everything is good.
- Make another skype call and adjust the volume using the headset's volume buttons
* Now the problem is there, no mouse left-click

There problem stays there until the headset is unplugged.

So basically the only way to sort of use the headset is to make sure the base is on 'PC' mode and the headset is off the base before plugging it to the computer, then select it as output/input device and don't touch any of the buttons on the headset or the base while in use.

It it a wireless mouse you are using?

If it is, try changing it for a wired one and see if the problem ceases. If it does it might be something to do with rf interference between the two devices. Is there any option in your headset to alter its 'channel' as on a wireless router?

It sounds like a pretty difficult problem to troubleshoot this one. :(

It is a wireless mouse, but I don't think that's the problem. This is on a laptop and the problem is there also on the touchpad buttons.

I have a very similar problem, as of LM13 64-bit (KDE). All I have to do is remove the headset from the base for the left mouse button to "die". I haven't found a way to fix this short of a system reboot.

I have a Jabra as well, and a wireless mouse. I had exactly the same hardware with LM12, and 11, and 10, and earlier, and this is the first time I've run into this problem. So, something, somewhere, broke in LM13.

I tried the work-around in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1002952 and got no joy from it.

Anyone had any luck with this issue?

Well I don't think that fix is for the weird mouse behavior as the title says.

I guess - on the other hand, the problems described by people posting there, led me to give it a shot. I thought it couldn't hurt to at least try. I'd love to be able to use my headset again.

Might try the suggestion in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=127699 next - unless someone already has. [sigh]

Yeah, I remember reading that thread at some point... interesting info! I didn't try that because I have an Nvidia card and I'm using Nouveau drivers and I don't have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. However... if I install the proprietary nvidia drivers that does use an xorg.conf file and maybe I could apply it there.

Have you tried it on yours?

I moved to NVidia drivers again yesterday so I'm using xorg.conf now. Applied the fix and it also worked for me. Great!
