Hello,
Update did some more testing now today:

sudo speaker-test -Dhw:1,7 -c2

gives me whitenoise in my front left speaker and my front right speaker, but when i in xbmc select custom and add pughw:1,7

However I get failed to initliaze sound check your sound settings:

Another update i managed to get stereo sound out on 1 try and then when i triede selected something else i got nothing again even with the same file also seems that radio works?
Thanks :)

If I do that command I get this:

speaker-test 1.0.25

Playback device is hw:1,7
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1401:(_snd_pcm_hw_open) Invalid value for card
Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory

and no sound,

any suggestions out there?

Greetings,

I'm no linux expert but i recently installed Mint and had no sound and the following helped me so I'll post it here in the hope it will help you also.

First i had to download and install the alsa mixer from the synaptic package manager

Once that was installed

What i did was open up terminal and type

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Click enter after typing that

That should then open up gedit

Then scroll to the bottom of all the text in gedit and under the last line add # options snd-hda-intel model=auto

Then click file then save, then close gedit and then close terminal

You then want to restart the computer so menu logout restart

And hopefully you have sound

Auto should work for most if it doesn't work go here http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation ... Models.txt

and locate your soundcard and then on the right below the soundcard locate your nearest matching computer, you want the text to the left of your computer model thats listed below the soundcard.

Then open terminal type sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

This time when gedit opens simply delete the word auto from the line you added earlier and replace it with the text relevant to your sound card and computer from the link above

Then save and exit gedit and then exit terminal and restart again.

This gave me sound.

Hope it helps

Peace

GL

Be patient. I have the same problem too.

I have 3 computers and all 3 run Mint 13 w/xfce. And only one of them has a sound issue.

I am running some tests to determine where the problem originates.

I will use this thread to troubleshoot the problem.

FYI: I just reinstalled Linux Mint and the sound now works.

I do not know what triggered the sound to go out.
