Sound working on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit but not on LM 14 64bit

How come sound is working on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit while it doesn't work on Linux Mint 14 64bit?
What's been modified on Ubuntu that makes it not working on Mint?

I don't know if it's related to drivers or not.
Both on Ubuntu and LM, I'm hearing a startup sound during startup. But when I'm using Firefox, no sound. Playing youtube, no sound. I tried to install Chromium, still no sound on youtube.

I can't compare the difference in Ubuntu and LM now that I have removed Ubuntu and replaced it with LM.
Anyone knows how to fix this or have experience on this?

Hi,

I am having the same problem. The sound was working while the installation process. But after that, it is not working anymore. With an exception, the sounds works while using headphones, but not via the normal speakers. KenWeiLL is the sound working for you via headphones?

I have installed the LM 14 64bit in my Thinkpad T530

I have just replaced my system with LM 13 LTS Cinnamon 64bit. Everything was working (except that I can't disable my laptop's touchpad using the function keys, working on LM 14). Audio when playing movie is heard in my external speaker, as well as playing youtube on firefox.

But after updating LM, playing a movie on VLC and other media players, no sound is produced on external speaker. If jack is removed, a sound can be heard on internal speaker on laptop but not working on external speakers. Same with playing youtube on firefox. Sound can only be heard via laptop's internal speaker but when jack is inserted for external speakers, nothing... No sound.

Fixed my problem with:

Code: Select all

echo "options snd-hda-intel model=asus" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
then reboot system.
