No you don't need anything more from your video board than compatibility and that's got nothing to do with memory type - mind you video boards have had DDR3 a long time now (on mobos with DDR2)

The new ATI cards are getting DDR5... Faster memory provides greater bandwidth, which only comes into use with extreme 3D applications/games - Crysis for example. The 9600GT is the best bang for the buck card now, it can be picked up for $99.... that's the card I would get now if I was shopping around.
