A choice: sound or brightness control?

Post by ProfessorKaos64 » Mon Jun 10, 2013 10:46 am

I have a weird connundrum... I have sucessfully installed Linux Mint 15 on my Macbook Pro 7,1. Wireless, touchpad, everything (almost) is working. I do have one situation:

1. If I use the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau driver, I can adjust my brightness with F1/F2, however my sound is stuck to "dummy sound"

2. If I use any of the nvidia drivers (nvidia-310 works fine), I have sound support, but no brightness control (the widget shows up on the screen, but brightness is not adjusted)

In either* case, keyboard light control does work, surprisingly.

Question is, is it possible to just merge/install the "xorg keyboard controls" package, or what is the best route here?

Thank you for any kindness, I am a newb to putting this on a macbook, but a decent Linux user

This will work with you Nvidia driver.
Open the Terminal and type: gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Go down to the section that says: Section "Device"
Add the following line to this section, just above the last line that says "EndSection".
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
Save the file and reboot.

Hi there,

I'm having the same issue on a 2010 Macbook Pro, but I don't seem to have an xorg.conf file to edit. I tried a

Code: Select all

sudo find / -name xorg.conf
and it's not coming up with anything either.

I'm running a new install of LM17 Qiana and the nvidia-331.38-0ubuntu1 driver.

Otherwise mint is working perfect - i've been cycling through a load of distros and its definately my favourite!

Thanks

I entered this at the command line:
gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

It opened my text editor. It was blank because I didn't have an xorg.conf

Pasted this, that I got off of the Unbuntu forum:

Section "Device"
Identifier "NVIDIA GeForce"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
EndSection

Saved.
Re-booted

Problem fixed!
