Intel DQ77MK board with i3-3240 - Maya won't load
Posted: Tue Dec 03, 2013 1:30 am
I'm surprised this combo doesn't work but Maya blows up about 1/2 way through initial screen load. Latest version of Mate does complete through first screen but I really need a KDE-LTS version if at all possible. Any words of wisdom or good experiences much appreciated. Can't really find much of anything on the Internet for this combination.

Problem solved. Loaded the latest version of Lubuntu (ver. 13.10) and everything worked 100% first time. This board has a displayport (DP) which I hadn't worked with before. Used a single, cheap, DP to HDMI cable and the board drives a big screen Panasonic with no trouble. I can also report that the board idles at around 27 watts and maxes out at around 47 watts. Entire setup runs pretty much stone cold (I don't play games). Bought the i3-3240 for less than $100 which is a steal considering it does video out as well. Plays HD video without breaking a sweat.
I also found that Lubuntu can be configured to look pretty much like KDE. A lot of the same apps can be easily loaded. I LOVE Linux
