Function keys not working on Samsung series 9 in Petra

Post by aaulders »

Hello I just installed Linux mint 16 Petra cinnamon on my Samsung Series 9 15 inch Laptop NP900X4D. I can not get the fuction keys to Work.

I also think that the fan control is not properly because. because the laptop is getting very hot.

Hi aaulders,

I am currently trying to fix a similiar issue on a Toshiba Satellite S75D with linux mint Petra KDE and if I happen to success, then we can try to use the same fix approach on yours :).

About the laptop getting hot, does it has an Nvidia graphic card? if so then you should try to install bumblebee and the nvidia privative drivers (don't install it if you don't have an Nvidia graphic card). And from the cpu side, I recommend you to install cpufreq to monitor and configure the processor frequency.

aaulders,

You can try the methods in this topic. Read my first and third posts. If you can get scancodes generated for the Fn+key
combinations, then post them and I'll give further instuctions.

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=151326

The information needed would look similar to this:

Code: Select all

scan code: 0xCE key code: prog1
scan code: 0x89 key code: brightnessdown
scan code: 0x88 key code: brightnessup
scan code: 0x82 key code: switchvideomode
scan code: 0xF9 key code: f23
scan code: 0xA0 key code: mute
scan code: 0xAE key code: volumedown
scan code: 0xB0 key code: volumeup
scan code: 0x97 key code: kbdillumdown
scan code: 0x96 key code: kbdillumup
scan code: 0xB3 key code: prog3
scan code: 0xD5 key code: wlan
scan code: 0x01 key code: esc
