System Lockup

Postby BluenoseDave » Tue Jul 29, 2008 9:14 pm

I'm a newbee with Linux and Mint. I tried to in stall Mint 5 from a CD after downloading and unpacking an iso file. Worst crash I've ever had. I got a message on startup after install "Grub Loading stage 1.5. / Grub loading, please wait / Error 22". My system has an AMD +1800 processor, lots of RAM & Disk space and a Gforce 7600 video card.

Okay - so you managed to install.
Do you have a complicated partitioning scheme?
Under certain conditions the install fails without any messages leaving a fully installed system except for grub
The error message indicates this is what happened
Did you notice if the installer showed "Installing boot loader" ?
If it did not this is your error
Did you use guided partitioning? This bug (almost) only appears with guided and the solution is to reinstall and use manual partitioning
I have filed a bug report about this
Do you have removable disks and removed or added a disk?
Then the solution is here ... annot_boot
This however does not give an error message in my experience
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
