acer aspire laptop freeze

Postby wired0man » Fri Aug 08, 2008 3:16 am

Hi, guys. thanks for cool distribution.

I have installed on my Acer aspire 5100 laptop latest version of Mint Elyssa with Gnome
and now feeling more then just satisfied. All was ok, but I have found a problem.

Usually, I start some torrent to download and let laptop "have fun" without me. :)
Well, after 10 minutes of inactivity screensaver starts, about 10-20 minutes
it works and then my screen is freezing. Screensaver stops, no response from mouse, keyboard, touchpad etc.
I can't even reset my laptop or turn it off by power button. The only one trick that works perfectly is
battery removing. But at the same time I'm not sure that all the system is hanging at this moment,
cose lan leds on my modem are flashing, so I guess downloading is in process.
After installation of fresh system on laptop I have just downloaded ATI drivers with EnvyNG and nothing more.

Laptop hardware:
AMD Turion 64 X2 , 1GB RAM, ATI Mobility Xpress 1300, Atheros wi-fi, Realtek lan

Please, help me to turn the light on this problem.

Ufff, I guess I have figured out this problem a lil.
During previous night laptop was working fine without
any its "sleepy" tricks. I have turned off any screensavers and
set the power function to put display to sleep after 10 minutes when idle.
All was great, this morning i saw alive laptop.

So, now I'm pretty sure that the problem in ATI drivers compatibility with
my Mobility chipset.
