Compaq nx6310 Laptop Bluetooth Quesion

Post by jlane01 »

I have a compaq nx6310 laptop and the bluetooth only works with mint 13 (does not appear to be proprietary hardware). I doesn't work with mint 17. It seems to be a driver in the kernel, but I'm not sure how to determine which driver I need and how to get it working with mint 17. Does anyone have any ideas?

There are quite a few nx3610 models according to what I found here, and multiple models have integrated bluetooth:

Is the bluetooth built into the wifi card? This is my first time having a machine with bluetooth so it's all new to me. Wifi is recognized with 17, without having to install proprietary drivers.

I'm not at the machine right now so give me a little bit to go check and see what kind of wireless card I have.

I might have this solved. I tested on another similar laptop, also a compaq nx6310. When i first installed linux mint on them I noticed a problem with the wifi being blocked. It wasn't a switch, but I kept getting an error message about some kind of hard block. With a little research I determined that it was rfkill and a simple sudo rfkill unblock wifi fixed that error.

Not knowing it had bluetooth I did some distro hopping and installed slackware 14.0. Low and behold I discovered that it had bluetooth, though when I upgraded to 14.1 the bluetooth stopped working. So I figured that it was a driver problem. Tried mint 17 again and installed blueman (which it turns out wasn't installed by default) no big deal, but it still wasn't working. When I installed mint 13 as it is also an LTS bluetooth worked out of the box.

On the other laptop I still had mint 17 installed and then installed blue man and it did not work, however when I tried sudo rfkill unblock bluetooth the blue too started working. I still want to test it out on the first laptop, but this might be solved... fingers crossed. Not really sure why it turns itself off though, but first thing is first.. time for testing to see if that is the issue.
