Suspend not working on Dell 1525 LM17 Cinnamon SOLVED
Niether Suspend nor Hibernate work from closing the top or using Terminal commands.
Black screen only.
I have to hold down the power button and then reboot i order to use laptop.
I have tried changing the video driver.
Any advice?

Re: Suspend not working on Dell 1525 LM17 Cinnamon
Well don't have Dell have an HP DV5 with the exact same problem. My solution so far has been using Windows 8. Saw release of Mint 17 so upgraded system and not suprisingly still doesn't work. Actually I have only been able to succesfully with much labor get sleep/hibernate to work on a laptop once that was like in the Ubunto 10.04 or 10.10 days.
It's always been a MAJOR weak point in Linux.
Any my hw is:

Re: Suspend not working on Dell 1525 LM17 Cinnamon
you should have 4 Gb of swap.ID-2: swap-1 size: 0.02GB used: 0.00GB (0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/sdb3
use the intel driver
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads ubuntu 14.04
also
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install lm-sensors
Code: Select all
sudo sensors-detect
Now, when typing sensors in the terminal, you will get the CPU temperature:
Code: Select all
sensors
-acpi
-acpitool
-acpid
-libfwtsacpica1
-acpi-support
-libfwtsiasl1
-powermgmt-base
-fwts
-toshset (don't ask seems to be real common for most laptops)

in your case the swap seems ok.

Thanks for your reply, bu are you refering to the Intel Driver?
My Swap looks good.
The Intel site only list Ubuntu and Fedora.
My Driver Manager states:
"No propitetary drivers are in use."

Re: Suspend not working on Dell 1525 LM17 Cinnamon
Mint 17 is based on Ubuntu 14.04 so use this driver (and for future reference all drivers are Ubuntu 14.04)
Re: Suspend not working on Dell 1525 LM17 Cinnamon
Okay, I tried
"use the intel driver
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads ubuntu 14.04"
Still no suspend.
Black Screen!
The changing video drivers has not fixed my Suspend problem, but it has caused other video redition problems in other programs.

did you apply all the the previous items I mentioned?
sensors and acpi?
your bios is outdated mine is at A17 and is there a reason for using a 32 bit OS?

Re: Suspend not working on Dell 1525 LM17 Cinnamon SOLVED
I think I have may have fixed my problem?!
I uninstalled X-Screensaver.
That's it.
Now, Suspend seems to be working.
I will need more testing, but for now i'm marking this as Solved.
Thanks for everyones help, especially PatH57!

I did everything suggested in this post, but couldn't get suspend to work consistently.
xscreensaver wasn't even present by default. So I installed it. Didn't help. Then uninstalled it, still nothing.
I tried disabling all sleep/suspend/hibernation... but still, i I leave my computer intact for too long (with lid closed), it can't resume.
The "power" and "wifi" leds light up and the computer freezes.
Re: Suspend not working on Dell 1525 LM17 Cinnamon
I think I posted something before, but don't know... maybe I'm just still under moderation.
The thing is:
Resume problems are a kernel issue that is supposed to be fixed in 3.13.0.35. (available from update manager)
However, installing the new kernel seems to break the intel graphics driver. (green vertical stripes)
However², "Grubing" into recovery mode of the new kernel and selecting the first option - resume boot or sth, makes the system run somehow stable, sleeping and resuming working like a charm and everything.
Anyone who didn't bother to install intel's drivers through the their fancy graphical installer should try the 3.13.0.35 and report if graphics are ok.
Best wishes putting your laptops to sleep

Re: Suspend not working on Dell 1525 LM17 Cinnamon
Same issue here. Upgrading to 3.13.0-35 or any of the kernels in the update manager failed to fix the issue. Is there any easy way to downgrade to an earlier kernel than in the update manager list?

Everything seems to work great in mint 17.1.

I found that automatic sleep doesn't work (on a Lenovo B50-70 Laptop) in 17.1 64bit Cinnamon if "Lock the computer when put to sleep" is UNticked. I consider this a bug.peroz wrote:Everything seems to work great in mint 17.1.
