Dell 1525 Laptop No Suspend just Black screen. [SOLVED]

Post by ichido »

My DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop's screen goes black if I try to Suspend, Hibernate or just close the lid.
The only thing I can then do is to turn off the power and reboot.
I have tried updating my drivers, non avalible.
I've tried changing the Power Managemant settings to every possible combination, still blackscreen of death.
I'm running LM 17, Qiana 17, Cinnamon.
Can anyone help?

Hi,

I have a 1525 also and it took a bit of tweaking to get it to work properly. (also not all 1525 are the same)
Let's take a look at your:

Code: Select all

sudo inxi -U
to make sure you have the latest version

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz

ok, so i found in one other post here on forums that updating kernel to 3.13.0-35 could help and it did - suspend works fine. haven't tried hybernation because i don't need it.
for those who don't know how to update kernel, the easiest way is to fire up mint update manager and then in VIEW / LINUX KERNELS find the the one you wan't.
cheers

I tried the Update Manager to update to 3.13.0-35, but it made no change to anything.
I then looked at the Kernal Update and it shows 3.13.0-35 as Reccomended but not Loaded?
I shows my old 3.13.0-24 as Loaded?
How do I get the OLD 0-24 to be replaced by the 0-35?

Do I have to Install each one of the consecutive updates?
There is no Remove Button under my persent Kernal.
For now I'm stuck.

Hello, ichido.

Your new thread about the same (still unresolved) topic has been re-merged back into this thread. It does simply not make any sense splitting an ongoing thread just because no user so far has posted the replies which you hoped to get.

Cheers,
Karl

It my be too trivial to mention, because you might already know: Once Mint Update has finished installing a kernel update, you must reboot the machine, else the new kernel will not be used.
Have you really installed the new kernel and rebooted?
Where do you see "recommended", but "not loaded"? - I cannot remember ever having seen these terms anywhere in Mint Update.

Cheers,
Karl

Hi Karl, you can find that information in View>Linux Kernels in MintUpdate. IIRC it was added with the release of 17 :)

Re: Dell 1525 Laptop No Suspend just Black screen. [SOLVED]

Went to: https://launchpad.net/~danielrichter200 ... customizer
Followed the three simple commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install grub-customizer

And Now Suspend works!

Grub2 was not showing me the option to use the newer Linux Kernal.
Now I can boot to the newer Kernal.
The -35 Kernal now works with the Suspend feature!!

Thanks to all who helped, tried to help or just didn't know how to help!
