just wondering each time I put a DVD or CD into the drive it takes about 45 - 60 secs for the desktop to say that it sees the disk?
Cinnamon 17, just the common stuff up to date after an install.
Any software or program others using to speed that up?
slow cd or dvd typical?

Reading a DVD is always slow. My old Dell Inspiron takes a couple of minutes to boot a live DVD, and almost as long to recognize it in the file manager when inserted.

It's a spin-up thing
If more files and folders to index it takes longer.
My system:
Qiana Cin takes 25s
GParted live takes 18s
KDE usb takes <2s

Re: slow cd or dvd typical?
cool, thanks all, I just spoiled once putting a disk in, the label comes up, then how ever long it takes to read.
300+ cd's and dvd's to see whats I have or not
Just with Linux it seems to spin an spin, once it is done then it lets you know there's something there by throwing a disk ID label up on the screen. Cool I can live with that.

LOL your reading my mind, I was setting up a freeNAS sevrer
I got DVD blueray and movies over the past 20 years, a whole room full shelves and cabinets, games, xbox wii and the sorts. Maybe I can write a review how NAS gave me back my walls and windows to look out and let the sun in. *cough* ever since I went to linux mint to see what I can do.
I have been converting my web codes to PHP all all/weekend coming.
So happy with Mint 17 !!!!
