Restricted drivers applet vs. EnvyNG

Postby jhaitov » Sat Nov 01, 2008 9:08 am

I have been moving from Windows to Linux for several months now, trying many distributions. Finally decided to stay with Mint.

Have one question concerning Nvidia driver installation method.

Which one should preferred ('Restricted drivers' applet or EnvyNG)? And how are driver upgrades handled (automatically or manually) in either case?

Thanks for your replies and sorry if my first/newbie post was in breach of anything :)

The end result is basically the same, but not quite
The applications do slightly different things and for nvidia Envy installs nvidia-settings which I don't think the restricted applet does
In may experience you get a slightly better result with Envy and if your video card does not work too well it may be useful to uninstall the driver and try the other method
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
