Mint freezes on downlaods. Developers help!

Postby ryclegman » Sat Dec 06, 2008 9:41 pm

Hello,

Iv been problems. Yesterday i was downloading something from the internet and it froze completely, my lights on my keyboard just flashed ect. I rebooted and went back to firefox and it crashed again because the file stated to download again. So another reboot and by now im pissed. I spent hours on this problem with ubuntu and hoped mint would be a bit different, but not. I believe iv narrowed it down to the wireless driver. here is s post on it in ubuntu. http://ph.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?t=765510 - 12 pages and a million more other posts about this problem! i hope maybe a developer of mint could be a huge help and try and solve this issue. Ubuntu doesn't help anyone at all!
heres some log errors i found:

Dec 6 21:25:50 ryan-desktop gdmgreeter[6571]: GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL: gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file_at_scale: assertion `width > 0 || width == -1' failed

Dec 6 21:25:55 ryan-desktop modprobe: WARNING: Not loading blacklisted module ipv6

Not sure if I can help, but will get it started. Post the output of

Code: Select all

lspci -kvv
from a terminal.

Seen same problem. Was due to netword card sharing interrupt with display card.
Solved by moving the network card in a PCI slot that does not share its IRQ line (the 2nd on my mb)
If unsure which slot, try all and check PCI IRQ assignment at boot screen: if IRQ is still shared, power off move card to next PCI slot.

Hope will help.
