I was looking at a replacement laptop for my Acer 5535, which died today. Mobo fried I think.
Anyway I spotted this:

Does anyone know if secure boot can be disabled and legacy boot enabled with this model? I know some don't make it easy to do.
If it can then I'll buy it and Mint 17.1 will go straight onto it - rid it of Windows.
Edit:
This page suggests it's workable.

I don't know how you got "workable" for a Linux install on either page.excollier wrote:This page suggests it's workable.

It suggests that Secure boot can be disabled, and CSM boot (legacy boot) can be enabled, first paragraph in the release notes.

I guess that is important.excollier wrote:It suggests that Secure boot can be disabled, and CSM boot (legacy boot) can be enabled, first paragraph in the release notes.

One thing you might have to do is install the 3.19 kernel. My Toshiba L70 needs that to make the Intel HD graphics work correctly.
Re: Is this a Linux Friendly laptop?[SOLVED]
I've never installed a different kernel to the one provided with the distro, so that's something new to learn.

You just select it in the update manager (View/Linux Kernels/3.19.0-18), install it, then reboot .excollier wrote:I've never installed a different kernel to the one provided with the distro, so that's something new to learn.
If there's a problem, you can select the old kernel from the GRUB menu (press shift when booting), then uninstall the new one.
Re: Is this a Linux Friendly laptop?[SOLVED]
Thanks, I must give that a try sometime.
