I have audacity 2.0.5 and mint 17 and cannot get a fancy microphone to connect using a usb audio box.
I have a thread on this topic on audacity, see the above link, and they suggested that I try here.

Maybe you 'll find a hint on my help, chapter 5, sound ( -> see signature)
but I don't have any experience with "usb audio box".

some nice tricks but it did not seem to help with my problem of connecting microphone
