Seagate 7 External HDD SOLVED

Post by Kilowatt »

Yes I know it's small, expensive and pretty! Hopefully there will be a version with more GB later on. (Yes, I have too much pension left at the end of the week). It works well and is a very good mobile hard drive. I cannot get it to work with Linux Mint 17.2 KDE, which half of my ThinkPad collection are running. It just does not mount when plugged in. Does anyone know how to get it to work with Linux?

UPDATE 5th October

Today I saw on C.NET advert that it comes pre-formatted as exFAT. I did a quick format to NTFS and all works well, Phew, all seems O.K. now, so original Seagate 7, reformatted to NTFS will work in Linux and Windows.

you could add the device notifier applet to the desktop

You could also

Code: Select all

fdisk -l
and then

Code: Select all

sudo mount /dev/sdaX /mnt
May you have good thermals.
