USB camera

hope this hasnt already been covered.. i did a search and couldnt find anything.

I bought a generic USB inspection camera, aka endoscope
like this one

i can see it in dmseg.. but i cant get it to come into VLC.. i tried to install cheese.. but apt states its in a pkg called cheese-common..
i installed that but still no cheese.

found cheese exe on my other mint server... copied it to my laptop... it works now..

I bought one of these a year or so ago and never got much use out of it. The software would just about creak along in Windows Vista but failed in Mint. After reading this thread I found Cheese in the Software Manager, installed it and WOW! So much better than with the original software. Thanks.

Thank you for the cheese recommendation. I went to the website specified on the instructions and the site was dead. Installed cheese and launched and this little thing worked perfectly except the light wont light. This is going to be a great little addition to my amateur gunsmiths stuff once i get the light working.
Loving mint more everyday.
