This is for a recent (about a year or so old ) Sony Vaio laptop. Model VGN-NR120E. With Linux Mint 6-Gnome

Anyway I came across this site

Here I found a what I had been waiting for. Wireless Linux drivers for my particular Atheros Chipset. I had to use NdisWrapper and windows wireless drivers to get the thing to work before. But no longer. I just downloaded the package compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2. This package is for kernels 2.6.27 and newer. The packages are updated daily. There is also a package for older kernels as well. I used the newer one. You will need your kernel headers installed for this to work. For more information visit the site. http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download

Download the package and extract the contents.

tar jxvf compat-wireless-$(date -I).tar.bz2

cd ((to new directory))
sudo make install
make unload ((to unload any existing drivers))
make load ((to load the new drivers))

Reboot the machine.
After reboot not only did the drivers work but the led light next to the switch works too!! Great!!

I hope this helps someone to get their wireless networking working on recent Sony Vaio Laptops with Atheros Chipsets.
Don't you know that absolute power leads to ultimate peace? Power aint nothing if you don't use it.
I call it a sin Not to rule the world, if you've been blessed, with the strength!
