[SOLVED] Function Keys - Toshiba Satellite L50-C - FN key mode

Post by dimic »

Hi @all,
i have got a Toshiba Satellite L50 C 230 notebook.

Function keys are working under Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa.
But i do not like that i have to press the [FN] key in order to use multimedia keys like [VOLUME UP] or [BRIGHTNESS DOWN].
By default, the normal F1...F12 keys are activated by the function keys.
But on the keys, the multimedia functions are printed and i use them more often.

In the BIOS i can select [NORMAL FN KEY MODE] for F1...F12 or [SPECAIL FN KEY MODE] for multimedia keys.
But this setting is ignored by the computer, under Windows 10 as well as under Linux Mint Rosa.

Under Windows 10, there is a software "Toshiba System Setup" where i can change the function key mode - this works for Windows, but not for Linux.
Is there any way to change the behavior of the FN key under Linux Mint?

-- YES, i have read the numerous postings concerning function keys, but i did not find a solution for Toshiba Satellite notebooks, where BIOS settings for function keys are ignored.

-- YES, i agree this is a cosmetical problem with low priority. I am happy that all important system functions work 100% perfectly under Linux Mint Rosa! :D

Thanks for hints,
Dieter

Problem solved!
After update to Linux Mint 18.2, the function keys behave as configured in BIOS. :D
