Laptop hardware support for Mint

Postby Peter Witteveen » Fri Feb 06, 2009 7:50 am

Dear reader,

A while ago I bought an Acer Laptop, installed Mint on it, and it worked without any problems.
A friend of mine got himself an Acer as well, and installed several Linux distro's. None of those supported either his sound card or his wifi card.
Because of this he turned straight back to windows.

I don't want this to happen to me when a buy a new laptop.

How do i know when a laptop's hardware will work with Linux?
Is there a list or source somewhere that tells for which laptops there are linux drivers avaiable for all the hardware?
Like; "this laptop model from vendor X has been confirmed to work with Linux distro X version X"

If anyone could tell me where to look, that would be appreciated!

greetings,

Peter

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
