I am fairly new to linux and am having a problem using my standalone HP scanner model scanjet 8200. It works fine in windows but not in my Linux Mint 17.1 xfce distro. The scanner has a microfilm loader built into the lid and also support for automatic document feeder (ADF) as well but the ADF hardware is not installed/present.
When I try to load xsane it comes up with error
" failed to open device `avision:libusb:002:002': operation not supported "
Days and Days of googling suggest that it is trying to find the ADF hardware but doesn't and just times out. Examples of my problem and possible fixes are in the links below but I have no idea how to implement them.

How can I apply the patches or what configuration files can I adjust to ignore the ADF?
