I was looking in the keyboard configuration menu in the System Settings and noticed in the 'Advanced' section an option to use number pad keys to move the mouse pointer. I thought it was worth looking at and tried it. It doesn't suit the way I work but then I couldn't find a way to switch it off. :-(

Now the 'Advanced' tab shows a lot of options to do with Caps Lock and Japanese keyboards but nothing resembling what I had before.

Could it be that I really changed it somewhere else (such as?) but I can't see forest for trees looking for any other possible place?

I don't particularly care how I get back to a proper keyboard. If there's a configuration file somewhere that I can edit and repair the damage I'll be content.

TIA

go to the keyboard preferences, then the "mouse keys" tab. Click on the box next to "pointer can be controlled using keypad". When the keypad is enabled, you can click the box using the "spacebar" or the "number 5 key on the number pad".

Good news. I found where I did it. In the 'System settings | Input devices | Mouse | Mouse Navigation' screen, there's a setting for "Move pointer with keyboard (using the num pad)". Might save someone else from looking in the wrong place.

Just couldn't see for looking as the expression is.
