i ran sudo apt remove 'linux-headers-4.7.2*' 'linux-image-4.7.2*' and then reinstalled 4.7.2, and the installed the reinforce gt9xx, when i ran sudo make install i got these two errors

No these errors, that I also got, are innocuous/harmless as Jeremy said, and I researched it. They likely have something to do with us not being core/kernel developers and not having "signed" build environments or some other build-env related thing.
Let me know if this driver is working 100% of the time or 9-out-of-10 times you boot up like the previous driver. Also, any news on if Bluetooth is working with that WiFi driver you compiled? Also, what about audio - internal/external and HDMI audio - working? Good luck.
PS. Some time down the road you should try the same on LinuxMint 18 Cinnamon (or Mate), which is based on Ubuntu 16. I think you will like the Cinnamon desktop better as most people do. As you prob figured out, all the above mentioned things work the same on LinuxMint as I'm using it.

sorry to say it is not working every time i start up, its early to say but it seems to be a little more often than with the original goodix_backport . there was however one notable change when i run modprobe -r goodix_backport and then modprobe goodix_backport it starts working, unlike before when i had to reboot

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core
I'd like to try to help.
Questions:
1. I understand that you installed to your Hi12 EEMC drive - were you able to do so & have Android & MS win10 remain intact?
If so can you share the steps, please? When I attempted to borrow some unused space from the win10 partition, to create a
Linux partition (ext3 or 4 as I recall), it trashed an Android partition. Pointer problem or something.
2. Could your solution be executed from a Live USB boot stick?
3. Could your solution be executed from a combo Live USB boot & extra files on a second USB stick or microSD card?
Thanks - David

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core
I can try to give a rough guide but there are some holes in my knowledge
First: I made a live USB of Ubuntu 16.04 ( I'm guessing other distros would work but I have no idea) Second: I installed from the live enviorment where the touch screen was working ( it worked on some start ups and not others but I'm not sure if that reall maters) I installed to a USB 3 drive (I only have windows installed I'm not sure if android would interfere in any way, also just a side note grub2 seems to be installing to the windows boot partion, also it is my understanding that the bios can't read the micro SD slot but I have not tryed so that might not be a option.
Third: to select my OS I'm hiting F7 during startup
From there you will have to bring files over on a USB or use a external wifi card here is a guide on geting kernel 4.7.2 http://www.yourownlinux.com/2016/08/how ... x.html?m=1 and the guides to geting wifi and the new touchscreen driver are in the last couple pages of this thread. Very curious to see if your touch Screen Works, good luck let me know if there is anything I can help clarify.

This is not surprising to me but I wanted to verify.Goodix-TS i2c-GDIX1001:00: Invalid config, using defaults
I'll rebuild it with that default parameter change I made before (on the Hadess code) and put on my pCloud and will update this thread when I've done so.
At least now we are on the latest code so I can report your problems to the developers to investigate and hopefully fix.

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core
@mauser_270, I forked the Goodix touchscreen driver code from the Linux mainline 'reinforce' github repo to my own 'blocksonic' repo and made a few changes that I hope will help debug the problem. I also added to mine the goodix_backport.ko driver itself that resulting from compiling my changes.
Install procedures: (recommended kernel 4.7 or later)
unload current module, if one exists
blacklist the goodix module if it's present in your kernel/distro.
Change the name of the currently installed module/driver to goodix_backport.ko.backup for backup purposes ...
and download and install the compiled goodix_backport driver for testing:
then reboot, or...
or you can compile it yourself the same as before but using my repo URL (https://github.com/blocksonic/gt9xx)...
Let me know if it runs any better and send me the dmesg log (both when failing and not-failing will be helpful). Thx.
Hopefully I didn't make any mistakes and it won't crash. It's been ages since I did any C programming
[PS. @mauser, I would install Cairo-Dock if you haven't already. I think it will improve your touchscreen ease-of-use experience]

No I have not got Bluetooth working I'll try this driver https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723bs_bt again as it was reported working on the TT forum.
I thought it a good opertuity to list the other things that I do not currently have working screen rotation (also a aperent fix on TT forums), the tablets physical buttons power volume and the windows key ( I'm asuming it wouldent be had to map), I just tryed the cameras with chease web cam and nothing came up but I can try some other programs, and of course sound which I have herd of no solutions other than a USB sound card.

For the audio problem You probably should install latest 64bit kernel 4.8-rc5 as I know it does not work on kernels earlier than 4.6 and I read somewhere that 4.8 has audio related fixes/features added to it.
Install Kernel 4.8-rc5 For 64-Bit Systems
Code: Select all
mkdir kern4.8.rc5
cd kern4.8.rc5
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8-rc5/linux-headers-4.8.0-040800rc5_4.8.0-040800rc5.201609041832_all.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8-rc5/linux-headers-4.8.0-040800rc5-generic_4.8.0-040800rc5.201609041832_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i *.deb
sudo reboot
For debugging the audio see this thread for the specific Alsa/PulseAudio logging that is needed to look at: viewtopic.php?t=227346#p1200184 That thread fizzled out because the guy I was trying to help there didn't want to upgrade his kernel and just gave up I guess.

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core
It appears that y'all are getting closer ...
4. Bring files over on a USB device - this step needs greater clarity. I'm trying to avoid guessing.
I can test something that's assembled and tested but don't have time to be exploring "guides"
as I'll just create a mess.
Can you assemble Step 4 into something that I can just download & copy for testing?
I'd be happy to take it for a test drive. My Chuwi Hi12 is just sitting here collecting dust -
waiting on a workaround for Linux functionality. (I see no point in doing anything until
I'm reasonably sure that testing process for Linux won't blow things up and make
Android-related efforts a waste time. I try to never use anything from ms or google,
but Android has become temporarily necessary ... occasionally.)
Thanks for sharing your efforts!
Note: I've asked some folks over on the Puppy Linux Forum to follow your progress.

copy and paste all the commands you performed otherwise it's hard for me to tell what went wrong.

Btw, I remembered why 4.8... it will supposedly support the Microsoft Surface 3 which is an Atom Cherry-Trail tablet.
