Logitech M525 Pointer Speed to fast

Post by pcpunk »

Is there any way to fix this. I have the Pointer Speed set to the slowest, and, learned that "Sensitivity" needs to be turned UP to make it even slower, which is not very intuitive IMO, but works. I even contacted Logitech about this but they are laying all the responsibility on the OS being used?

Thanks, pcpunk

In a terminal:

Code: Select all

xinput --list
Is the Logitech listed there?

OK. see the id# associated with the device--either 4 or 9 (try both)
in a terminal:

Code: Select all

xinput list-props 4
and

Code: Select all

xinput list-props 9
paste those back here

I should add that I don't need much, it's just a little to fast.

The Device Accel Velocity Scaling determines your resolution.
Notice that it has an attribute# (261)
So do this in a terminal:

Code: Select all

xinput set-prop 9 261 5.000000
That will divide your movement in half. Maybe too slow? try 7.500000 instead of 5.000000
There must be 6 digits after the decimal
Report your findings.

I ran this in the Terminal but it did not stick after a Logout and back in. Won't I have to do this in a Text Editor? It was hard to tell if it helped, I will do the lower value and see if it sticks before a Logout.

Code: Select all

xinput set-prop 9 261 7.500000

Yes--so you make a script in the form of:

#!/bin/bash
xinput set-prop "Logitech Unifying Device. Wireless PID:4013" "Device Accel Velocity Scaling" 7.500000
exit

Give it a name and put it in /home somewhere. Make the file executable.
In your startup applications make a link to this file and it will start automatically.
In some instances you may need a delay so just add 'sleep 5' just under #!/bin/bash (without the quotes)

Thanks all41 but it did not work, so no need to make a bash script. I went all the way down to 2.000000 and still nothing?

Is this and issue where I should file a bug report or something? I mean Logitech should work quite well I would think, it is a relatively new mouse, modern and middle of the road I would say.

I crossed this bridge with a Logitech 651 Trackpad.
In my instance I needed to speed up the cursor.
I experimented with different values in the terminal--then made the script.
Sorry it did not work out for you.

Note that the device id# may change at reload. That is why the script uses the
alphabetical designations for the device and parameter rather than the numbers. Did you rerun
xinput --list and xinput list-props id# to make sure the change was implemented?

@all41, I used the command below to make the change and then ran the second one again to see if it was being implemented, and it was. Only logged out the first time then realized that it would take a Edit to make it permanent. Then played around with the settings to no avail. Unfortunately it did not make any difference, but am not totally giving up if I see you re-post.

Code: Select all

xinput set-prop 9 261 7.500000
And this one to see the change, it was all good except for not making any difference.

Using a MS optical usb mouse there is a very pronounced reduction in speed when
reducing from the default 10.000000 to 1.000000--where it is way too slow.
I also tried decimal values less than 1.000000 and could not really see a further reduction in speed
even at 0.000001

Try increasing your property 278 to 2

Code: Select all

xinput set-prop id# 278 2
This parameter has a profound effect on speed.
Don't be afraid to experiment--just make a note of the default setting so you can change it back
