Sound

Post by tinker123 » Mon Jul 18, 2016 7:01 pm

Mint 17 Qiana Cinnamon

Hi,

I recently took my computer to the shop to have a video card put in. It has onboard sound.

I disconnected everything to take it to the shop. I installed the package nvidia-352 package with Synaptic

I reconnected everything this evening. The computer is connected to an external device that controls two speakers connected to a sub woofer. Everything is getting power. The external device has a wire that goes into a jack in the back of the PC.

No sound.

I tried the only other available jack.

No sound.

I brought up the Sound Settings for the system. The volume slider is greyed out ( screenshot attached ) and pushing the Test Sound button doesn't work.

I checked behind my desk for disconnected wires, there are none.

I'm a bit stumped as to what I can try next.

Thanks for any help.

Solved

Googling around, I found that NVIDIA has its own audio stuff that can usurp control from the onboard sound.

This can be fixed by going into the "BIOS" ( F10 button on bootup at the company logo for HP computers ), find the onbaord audio properties and setting it at "enabled"
