How does one change Resolutions?"

Postby sagasha1 » Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:09 pm

How can I set my 16x10 monitor to 1280x800, instead of the native 1400x900 (too small.) I have a Nvidia 9400 with a viewsonic 19". I have installed the Nvidia drivers and the Nvidia control panel shows the correct Monitor but does not show 1280x800. I have just installed Mint 6, coming from SUSE 11.1, which did allow me to use 1280x800. When I look at xorg.conf it does not show resolutions to edit.

How does one change screen resolution to one that is not listed?

Try this command:

Code: Select all

xrandr -s 1280x800

I hope it helps.

If you open "Control Center" & look in "Screen Resolution", is 1280x800 an option there?

When I do that I get:
Size 1280x800 not found in available modes

I have the same monitor set at 1280x800 with my daughters Windows machine and as stated above with this computer using openSUSE 11.1

Thanks for the suggestion and time.

No, thats why I was hoping I could edit my conf file. Same monitor, video card and machine I used with openSUSE (though I'll stay with Mint even if I can't change it!) Also I forgot to mention I'm using KDE 4.2

Thanks for the time.

There is a thread at the OpenSUSE forums that is quite old (2005) but apparently this guy managed to solve the problem. http://forums.opensuse.org/archives/sf-archives/archives-hardware/archives-laptop-support/317907-1280x800-resolution-suse-9-1-a.html
