Post by zoglover »

Title edited for clarity. I can't get my Broadcom BCM43142 to see devices. I need help getting the driver working.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Hi, there is a solution, but I formated my PC and didn't save it. It was given to me by someone at the "chat". Just entered here to search for it.
I cannot be much helping but just write to tell you don't panic. Check at the chat. I will, and promise to leave a comment if I find the solution again.

I entered this into the terminal from the link you gave me, and I think I made the situation worse. Can anyone advise?

That post of mine that was linked to won't do any good in Linux Mint 18. I am surprised that the module didn't cause issues, post

Code: Select all

modinfo btusb
You do need a firmware file that is specific to your bluetooth

Code: Select all

wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/prxmhz1zvt0chdc/fw-0489_e062.hcd
I think it needs renamed

Code: Select all

sudo cp fw-0489_e062.hcd /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM.hcd

The bluetooth now connects, but the connection is quite poor and not usable (distorted, out of sync). I suppose I might need to switch to an external usb transmitter.

I really appreciate your effort!

Any news about this issue? I have the same Broadcom device and cannot connect to my phone. The last post stated that is possible to connect but the connection is unusable.

I don't use bluetooth that much, but occasionally I wish to connect to my phone to discharge some pictures.

You could try

Code: Select all

rfkill block wifi
See if the connection is stable with wifi blocked. Then if you need wifi

Code: Select all

rfkill unblock wifi

thanks Jeremy but unfortunately disabling the wifi don't works. I will keep finding a solution. This is not a "huge" issue for me because I barely use blutooth, but anyway...

----update

worked following this trick: viewtopic.php?t=228888

In short: I downloaded the .hcd firmware for bluetooth, renamed BCM.hcd and placed in /lib/firmware/brcm/

The bluetooth works now, but it disconnects the wifi. I suppose this is because the bluetooth and wifi are in the same chip and cannot works at the same time. I could now send files from my pc to my phone, but not vice versa, strange...

I think it is an issue with the bluetooth coexistence in the wireless module and there isn't a parameter to change with the Broadcom cards like there is in the Intel and Atheros modules
