MATSHITABD-MLT UJ260AF Optical Drive Won't Write CDs

I'm new to Linux/LinuxMint but not new to computing or troubleshooting. I've worked with many O/S including DOS, SCO Unix, and Windows (several flavors). Below is an inxi -Fxn printout from my system:

System: Host: 908wqdithcglsj30 Kernel: 3.19.0-32-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 4.8.2)

Machine: System: Hewlett-Packard product: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC v: Rev 1
Mobo: Hewlett-Packard model: 3627 v: 18.50
Bios: Hewlett-Packard v: F.44 date: 04/06/2011

I've tried, unsuccessfully, to burn CDs with Xfburn, Brasero, and K3B. The programs load, I can add files, I commence a burn and all three crash stating that the blank CD-R is either not writable or cannot be unmounted. Xfburn showed the CD-R capacity as only 200 MB. I would really appreciate some assistance.

I never liked the CD?DVD burning apps Linux offers. Either limiting or, like you, reporting crazy results and aborting.
I found loading WINE and using ImgBurn (Windows app - free) work beautifully. Never had a problem

Have you tried burning at a slower speed?

Atari: Thank you for taking the time to consider and respond. I would rather not install Wine. My purpose in moving to Linux was to get away from Windows and Windows apps. It seems to me that this may be a hardware/driver issue and not a software issue. This is a BD/DVD/CD drive which has read/write capability for all three formats. I had this same hardware running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit and the drive worked just fine.

I've tried to find Linux drivers on the web and have come up empty so far. Any further suggestions are appreciated.

austin.texas: Thank you for your response. No, I haven't tried burning at a slower speed. Would you please explain why that would make a difference?
