Syntek Driver... bounds.c

Postby 73N5H1 » Sat Mar 14, 2009 1:09 am

Hi, I'm trying to build a kernel module for my Syntek webcam on my Asus F3sa.
I have kernel 2.6.27-11. I have installed the corresponding headers and well as the kernel source. When I attempt to makefile, I get this error:

make[2]: *** No rule to make target `kernel/bounds.c', needed by `kernel/bounds.s'. Stop.
make[1]: *** [prepare0] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.27-11-generic'
make: *** [driver] Error 2

I have tried reinstalling the headers with no luck.
when checking under my usr/src folder, I indeed have:

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-02-20 17:09 fglrx-8.543
drwxr-xr-x 22 root root 4096 2009-03-14 00:52 linux-headers-2.6.27-11
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 2009-03-14 00:53 linux-headers-2.6.27-11-generic
drwxr-xr-x 25 root root 4096 2009-01-29 16:08 linux-source-2.6.27
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 2009-02-19 22:37 rpm

I would really like to get this webcam working, if anyone could offer any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you

I hope it's not an insult but my standard answer in situations like this is have you installed build-essential?

Code: Select all

apt install build-essential

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Hi,
just follow step by step http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/syntek and you will get your webcam runing with some issues :) After everything done, run "sudo camorama" to ensure.

No insult taken, you're just narrowing down what the problem may be.

Indeed I have installed the build-essential package, I forgot to mention that in my initial post.

I have also extracted the kernel source as I understand that that has been the problem for some people with this same issue.

The link that you have provided is in french. Do you, by any chance, have a link to the same information in english?

I found an alternate makefile today that I'm going to try out when I get home. I'll post back here and let everyone know if it does/doesn't work.

Use google translate, but I think there is nothing to read lot, just follow instructions what to type in terminal and you done. It worked for me.

P.S. be careful with google translate as it can translate code too.
