Mint 18 ASUS ROG G752 trackpad buttons issue

Post by beowulf » Tue Dec 13, 2016 5:58 am

I have
Linux 4.4.0-53-generic #74-Ubuntu SMP Fri Dec 2 15:59:10 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The laptop is an ASUS ROG G752

Here is the list of input devices:
xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Sunrex/JME Ghost Key Elimiantion Keyboard id=12 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ ASUS Tech Inc. ASUS HID Device id=14 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ ASUS Tech Inc. ASUS HID Device id=15 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Elan Touchpad id=16 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]

↳ USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Asus WMI hotkeys id=17 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=18 [slave keyboard (3)]

The touchpad buttons not functioning or misconfigured.

The touchpad is working with 1 finger or 2fingers.

it's buttons has no any function when simple clicked. Neither left nor right buttons.
When touched with 1 finger, and pressed left button it is working like usually - doing highlight, and moving cursor.
When touched with 2 fingers, and click with left button it displays the popup dialog - as right click functionality. Right button has no functionality.

Does anybody know any configuration possibility?

I just got a G752VY myself and am having the same problem, but with Kubuntu 16.10. I was able to figure out that setting "ClickPad" to "false" (I set it that way in the appropriate spot in the collection xorg.conf.d files) fixes the left button, but the right button still refuses to do anything. I have yet to see it function at all on the Linux side.

I'm similarly hoping to find a solution to the right button. I'm tempted to file a bug report somewhere because I can't find any method to make it function even temporarily or by compromising other functionality.

I've filed a bug report with the Kernel Bug Tracker. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191651

Thank You!
How did you change the clickpad settings?

I'm not sure if the file is in the same place in Mint, but in Kubuntu, I went into:

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf

And then in this section:

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
Driver "synaptics"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"

I added this line:

Option "ClickPad" "false"

There was another command I used to test it, but I don't remember what it was. That makes it permanent and requires you to restart the X server.

Just tested the latest Manjaro iso and found the touchpad is working fine, both buttons handled correctly.

Could anybody help to investigate if this is a configuration issue or a driver problem?

Thanks!
