samsung scanner not detected [SOLVED]

Post by Gian Andrea » Sun Jan 08, 2017 10:06 am

Hello
Linux Mint Sahra Cinnamon
I can't scan documents with my Samsung c48x printer-scanner.
This is what I did:
1. I upgraded drivers and Mint detects efficiently the printer, not yet the scanner
2. The scanner is not automatically detected with sw "simple scan" nor with "Xsane"
3. Checked here https://www.openprinting.org/printer/Sa ... msung-C48x downloaded a zip file named "Samsung-C48x-Postscript-Samsung.ppd" it is currently in the "downloads" folder
4. Synaptic Package Manager doesn't detect the files, perhaps because it is a ppd ?!
5. Followed this link https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... ngprinters unsuccesfully, perhaps because the downloaded driver it is not a ".tar.gz" ?!

However I am not sure this is the right path as the two links refer to printer drivers. Differently from the provided CD for windows (that install the drivers package for the machine that is printer + scanner), probably in Linux I have to install both the drivers for the printer and for the scanner ...
Am I right?
What else could I do?

Go to http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/suld.html and get the latest driver package. (1.00.37)

Extract the package and run

Code: Select all

sudo install-scanner.sh
reboot

check if you are member of the lp or lpadmin group:

Code: Select all

groups
if your are not, do

Code: Select all

sudo adduser your_name_here lp
and reboot again

Thanks George99
I dowloaded and extracted but at the very first step:
sudo: install-scanner.sh: command not found

Shall I reboot anyway?

When you extract the package lets say on the desktop you'll see a directory "uld". You have to open the terminal in this directory otherwise you have to "cd" to this directory first to find the "install-scanner.sh" script.

And, after you cd to that directory, the correct command would be:

Code: Select all

sudo ./install-scanner.sh
Also, install.sh will install the scanner driver.

~ $ sudo ./install.sh
**** Do you agree ? [y/n] : Y
**** The same version of Print driver is already installed.
**** Registering SANE backend ...
**** Restarting udev ...
**** Scan driver has been installed successfully.
**** Install finished.

Warning: when you run the install-scanner.sh you will be presented with a long EULA. You have to page down through that carefully to the end where you can accept it. If you page down too far, it will abort, and you will have to start over.

I am surely making some very basic mistakes as I saw the uld folder and the install .sh files, they all are in the "downloads" folder, however:
1. if (in terminal) I try to reach the "downloads" folder (cd dowloads) it says "bash: cd: download: No such file or directory", I probably type the wrong code, dunno ...
2. if I click directly on the .sh file (whether the "install.sh" or the "install-scanner.sh") it asks me if I want to display or "run in terminal", clicking the latter a very short lasting window pops up and nothing happens.

Downloads not downloads
cd ~/Downloads

Capitalization matters in linux. The name of the folder is Downloads, not downloads (as already posted by morlockonzark)

Code: Select all

cd ~/Downloads/uld
Or, in your file manager, right-click on the uld folder > Open in terminal
Then no "cd" is necessary.

:D :D
I now aquired some VERY profound informations about linux.
I followed your instructions. A bit of a pain the long EULA as I paged down too far many times ...
Now both "simple scan" and "xsane" are able to scan a document.
One month to solve it!
Very happy
Thank you George99 and austin.texas
